The most useful skill for eating seafood in Da Nang is not knowing a “best restaurant” list — it is knowing how the restaurant prices and weighs the seafood before it reaches the kitchen. Some restaurants sell live seafood by weight, others price dishes directly, and premium species can change sharply by size, season and supply. Confirm the unit price, weight and preparation charge before ordering if the menu is not explicit.
Where should you eat seafood in Da Nang?
| If you want | Area / format | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Large live-seafood restaurant | Vo Nguyen Giap / beach-side districts and larger seafood streets | Price unit, weight, cooking method, additional charges and table wait. |
| Local, simpler meal | Residential streets away from the beachfront | Current menu and whether pricing is per dish or by weight. |
| Ocean view | My Khe / Vo Nguyen Giap side | You may be paying partly for location; compare the seafood price before ordering premium species. |
| Fixed-price experience | Hotel/resort buffet or set menu | What seafood is actually included that night; buffet themes change. |
| Mixed-diet family | Restaurant with a broader cooked-food menu | Vegetarian/Jain needs and allergy cross-contact should be confirmed separately. |
Vo Nguyen Giap and the My Khe side are convenient because many larger seafood restaurants are concentrated there, but they are not the only places to eat well. If your hotel is elsewhere, crossing the city for a restaurant that is merely “famous online” may add more travel time than value.
Which seafood restaurants are worth using as current reference points?
Restaurant popularity changes quickly, so we prefer a current reference set over a permanent ranking. The MICHELIN Guide’s updated 2026 Da Nang seafood selection currently includes MỘC Quán Seafood, My Hanh Seafood, Bé Mặn, Bé Ni 2 and Năm Đảnh. These cover different price levels and settings, from casual local dining to larger beach-facing restaurants.
Use that as a starting point, not a guarantee that one restaurant is “best”. Check the live address, opening hours, menu and recent operational information on the day you plan to eat. Search results also change: restaurants that dominate the local map pack now are not identical to the shortlist that appeared in this article in 2025.
How does seafood pricing work?
There is no reliable citywide “average seafood price” that stays useful for long. Crab, lobster, mantis shrimp, fish, squid, clams and snails can all be priced differently, and larger specimens or premium species can be much more expensive than a standard cooked dish.
| Before the kitchen takes the order | Confirm this |
|---|---|
| Price unit | Is the displayed number per kilogram, per 100 g, per piece or per finished dish? |
| Actual weight | If sold by weight, ask to see the measured weight before cooking. |
| Estimated seafood cost | Unit price × weight should be clear before preparation. |
| Cooking charge | Ask whether steaming, grilling, garlic butter, cheese, tamarind or another preparation adds a separate fee. |
| Other charges | Check drinks, side dishes, wet tissues, service or other items if they are not clearly included. |
A useful Vietnamese phrase is “Bao nhiêu một ký?” — “How much for one kilogram?” But the number alone is not enough; also confirm the weight and total estimated price.
Live tanks do not guarantee freshness or safety
The old version of this guide said the safest choice was seafood you personally selected from a live tank. We have removed that claim. A live tank shows that an animal is alive at selection time; it does not tell you everything about water quality, handling, source, kitchen hygiene, cross-contamination or whether the food is cooked appropriately.
Likewise, a crowded restaurant can indicate popularity and turnover, but it is not proof of food safety. Use normal judgement: choose an established operation, look for clean food-handling areas where visible, order seafood cooked thoroughly if you want the lower-risk option, and do not eat something that smells or tastes obviously off.
Which Da Nang seafood dishes are useful to recognise?
| Dish / style | What it is | Who it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Sea snails / ốc | Different snail and shellfish dishes cooked with lemongrass, chilli, garlic, coconut or other seasonings. | Groups who enjoy sharing several small dishes and stronger flavours. |
| Cua rang me | Crab cooked in a sweet-sour tamarind sauce. | Good when you want a sauced preparation rather than simply steamed seafood. |
| Scallops with scallion oil | Grilled scallops often topped with scallion oil and peanuts. | Easy shared starter; check peanut allergy if relevant. |
| Steamed squid / fish | Less heavily seasoned preparation using ginger, onion or lemongrass depending on the restaurant. | Useful for groups that prefer simpler flavours. |
| Seafood hotpot | Shared broth with seafood, vegetables and noodles or other accompaniments. | Families or groups who want a communal cooked dish. |
| Gỏi cá Nam Ô | A Nam O specialty using fish prepared in a raw or lightly cured style with herbs and dipping sauce. | Only for travellers comfortable with raw/undercooked seafood risk. |
Gỏi cá Nam Ô is culturally important — and it is still raw fish
Da Nang’s tourism authority continues to feature Gỏi cá Nam Ô as a local specialty associated with Nam O fishing village. It is served in dry and wetter styles with herbs, rice paper and a strongly seasoned dipping sauce.
Marinating fish with lime, vinegar, chilli or other seasonings does not turn a raw-fish dish into the same risk category as fully cooked seafood. Travellers at higher risk of severe foodborne illness — including pregnant people, older adults, young children and people with weakened immune systems or certain medical conditions — are generally advised to avoid raw or undercooked seafood.
If you want the Nam O food story without raw fish, the area is also known for traditional fish sauce and other cooked coastal dishes. The point is to understand the heritage, not to treat one dish as a compulsory test of adventurousness.
What should families and mixed-diet groups order?
For a family meal, we would start with one or two cooked seafood dishes, rice or noodles, vegetables and then add more once you see portion sizes. That is usually easier than ordering several expensive species by weight before knowing how much food the table actually needs.
Do not assume every seafood restaurant can provide strict vegetarian or Jain food just because it also sells vegetables or fried rice. Fish sauce, oyster sauce, shared woks and seafood stock can appear in otherwise vegetable-looking dishes. If strict vegetarian/Jain preparation matters, use a dedicated restaurant from our vegetarian restaurants in Da Nang guide or Indian restaurants in Da Nang guide rather than trying to turn a seafood kitchen into a specialist dietary kitchen.
Seafood allergies need a separate conversation
A restaurant that serves crab, shrimp, molluscs, fish and other seafood from shared tanks and kitchens is a difficult environment for someone with a serious seafood or shellfish allergy. Do not rely on simply ordering a non-seafood dish if cross-contact is medically important.
Explain the allergy clearly before ordering and choose another restaurant if the staff cannot confidently explain how the dish will be prepared. This is a safety decision, not a request the kitchen should be pressured to accept.
Is Tho Quang Fishing Port worth visiting?
Tho Quang Fishing Port is a real working part of Da Nang’s seafood economy. Current city tourism material includes the early-morning rhythm of the port among local-life experiences, where boats, traders and wholesale seafood activity are visible.
We would visit only if that working-market atmosphere is genuinely interesting to you. It is not necessary for eating good seafood, and it should not be approached as a place where tourists have priority over workers. Wear practical footwear, keep clear of loading areas and ask before photographing individuals at close range.
For general market sightseeing and shopping rather than seafood supply-chain interest, use our Da Nang markets guide. That keeps this page focused on seafood decisions.
How does seafood fit with Da Nang street food?
Seafood is part of Da Nang’s food culture, but it should not absorb the whole local-food topic. Noodles, bánh xèo, bánh tráng cuốn thịt heo, fish-cake noodle soups and market snacks belong in a broader food route.
If you want that wider picture, continue to our Da Nang street food guide. This seafood page should own the narrower questions: where seafood dining fits, how weight-based ordering works, which preparations to recognise and what safety/dietary checks matter.
How should seafood affect where you stay or plan the evening?
We would not choose a hotel solely around one seafood restaurant. If you stay near My Khe, many large seafood options are naturally convenient. If you stay near the Han River, use a restaurant that fits your evening route instead of adding a long round trip just because one venue appears on a “best seafood” list.
If your group is balancing seafood, vegetarian/Jain meals and sightseeing, place food around the geography in our Da Nang tour routes for Indian travellers rather than designing the whole itinerary around restaurants.
Planning Da Nang for a mixed-diet family or group? Send your hotel area, travel dates and dietary needs. We can keep one seafood dinner practical without creating an extra cross-city transfer or leaving non-seafood eaters with poor options.

Da Nang seafood FAQs
How much does seafood cost in Da Nang?
There is no stable single price. Cost depends on the species, size, season, restaurant and whether the item is priced by kilogram, portion or finished dish. Confirm the unit price and weight before cooking premium seafood.
Does choosing seafood from a live tank guarantee it is safe?
No. A live tank is part of the selection and ordering experience, but food safety also depends on sourcing, water and storage conditions, kitchen hygiene, cross-contamination and cooking.
Is Gỏi cá Nam Ô cooked?
Traditional versions use fish in a raw or lightly cured preparation rather than fully cooking it with heat. If raw seafood is not appropriate for you, choose another local dish.
Which area is easiest for seafood restaurants?
The My Khe / Vo Nguyen Giap side has many large seafood restaurants and is convenient for beach-area hotels. But the best choice for your night is often the restaurant that fits the hotel and sightseeing route without unnecessary transfers.
