When we plan Phu Quoc from India, we do not start with the cheapest “India → PQC” price shown on a booking site. We first open the actual flight segments and check where immigration happens, whether the baggage is through-checked and how long the connection really is. That matters more than the route label because a ticket can be sold as “Delhi to Phu Quoc” even when the journey includes Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City.
As checked in October 2026, current schedules show no scheduled nonstop service from India to Phu Quoc (PQC). Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad all currently require at least one stop; Vietnam Airlines most commonly routes through Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) or Hanoi (HAN), while other airlines can sell India→PQC itineraries through those or other regional hubs. A booking page that lists your Indian city and Phu Quoc as the endpoints does not necessarily mean the flight is nonstop, so open the actual segments before paying.

Are there nonstop India–Phu Quoc flights?
There is currently no scheduled nonstop India–Phu Quoc service. Current route checks for Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad all show at least one stop. Vietnam Airlines publishes India–PQC journeys through Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, while VietJet and other carriers can also sell India→PQC fares that still include a connection.
We would not turn that into a permanent statement about every airline and every future date. Seasonal or newly launched services can change quickly. Before booking, open the itinerary and check that the first airport after departure from India is actually Phu Quoc (PQC) if a nonstop flight is important to you.
How we compare the connection
Total travel time can vary a lot because the layover matters more than the domestic flight itself. Vietnam Airlines currently shows some India–Phu Quoc connection patterns starting around the high-seven-hour range, while long layovers can push the journey well beyond that.
For families, senior travellers or a honeymoon, we usually prefer a slightly more expensive itinerary with a clean connection over the absolute lowest fare with a very long or risky self-transfer.
- Under one booking reference: usually easier for disruption handling and through-baggage, but still check what the ticket actually includes.
- Separate tickets: can look cheaper, but you carry the missed-connection risk yourself and may need to collect/recheck baggage.
- Terminal change: allow extra time when the connection changes from international to domestic.
- Overnight layover: compare the hotel/transfer cost against simply buying a better connection.
Do not plan around an old airfare range
We have removed the old fixed INR fare range from this guide because it becomes stale too quickly. Current airline pages themselves warn that displayed fares are pulled from recent searches and may no longer be available by the time you book.
What we compare instead:
- the final fare after baggage, not the teaser fare;
- whether meals or seat selection matter to your family;
- connection time and self-transfer risk;
- date flexibility by one or two days;
- cancellation/change conditions.
Visa and entry planning: this is where the connection matters
Phu Quoc has a special visa-exemption policy for foreign-passport holders staying on the island for up to 30 days. Vietnamese government guidance also states that a traveller can retain that exemption when transiting another Vietnamese international border gate while remaining in the transit area before continuing to Phu Quoc.
The important practical distinction is whether your itinerary keeps you in international transit or requires you to clear Vietnamese immigration and enter mainland Vietnam before taking a domestic flight to PQC.
How we handle this for Indian guests: if the itinerary includes a mainland stay, a domestic transfer that requires immigration, or any travel outside the Phu Quoc-only exemption conditions, we do not rely on the island exemption. We check the traveller’s Vietnam entry status before ticketing. Vietnam’s official e-visa system currently issues e-visas for up to 90 days, single or multiple entry.
If you are unsure, do not make the visa decision from the words “transit in Hanoi” or “transit in Ho Chi Minh City” alone. Check whether you must clear immigration, collect bags or change to the domestic terminal. Baggage: the detail we check before the fare
A low fare can stop being attractive once baggage is added. This is especially relevant for Indian family trips where several travellers may have checked bags.
- Same ticket: ask whether bags are checked through to PQC or must be collected at the first Vietnamese airport.
- Separate tickets: assume you may need to collect and recheck unless the airlines explicitly confirm otherwise.
- Low-cost domestic leg: check the baggage allowance separately; do not assume it matches the international sector.
- Connection time: baggage collection + immigration + terminal transfer + domestic check-in can use a large part of a short layover.
Which Indian departure city works best?
We would not rank Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad or another city without the actual travel dates. The better departure city is the one that produces the cleanest combination of:
- international flight availability;
- one manageable connection;
- through-ticket/baggage protection;
- reasonable total travel time;
- a fare that still makes sense after baggage and seat selection.
If you are positioning from another Indian city to Delhi or Mumbai first, include that domestic India leg in the total travel time. A “cheap” international ticket can become exhausting if it requires a separate overnight positioning flight.
Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City for the Vietnam connection?
Both hubs currently connect onward to Phu Quoc. We choose between them from the complete Vietnam itinerary, not just the flight price.
- Choose Hanoi when North Vietnam is already part of the trip and the routing stays clean.
- Choose Ho Chi Minh City when South Vietnam is already in the route or it creates the better same-ticket connection.
- Choose neither as a stopover when you only want Phu Quoc and a cleaner international routing becomes available for your dates.
What we check before booking
- Open the itinerary and count the actual flight segments.
- Check where immigration happens.
- Confirm baggage through-check or collection.
- Check terminal changes and minimum connection time.
- Price the fare again after baggage and seats.
- Verify entry requirements on the official Vietnam immigration/e-visa portal.
- Only then compare the total journey against another airline or route.

For most travellers, we would choose the connection that is easiest to explain on one line: one ticket, one sensible hub, enough time for immigration/baggage if required, and no hidden self-transfer. We would not chase a small fare difference if it creates an overnight airport wait or a risky connection.
