Hoi An and Da Nang are roughly 30 km apart, so the transfer is short enough to plan around your hotel, flight or train rather than treating it as a separate travel day. For Indian families, we normally look first at luggage, group size and the time you actually need to arrive. A direct car usually takes about 40–60 minutes, while the current public Bus Route 02 is a lower-cost daytime option if its timetable fits your journey.
| Option | Usually suits | Check before you leave |
|---|---|---|
| Taxi / ride-hailing | Couples, small groups, flexible departure | Live fare, pickup point and exact destination |
| Pre-booked private car | Families, parents, luggage, airport/train timing, early or late travel | Vehicle size, pickup time, luggage space and inclusions |
| Shared shuttle / van | Solo travellers or couples who can follow a fixed schedule | Pickup window, hotel stops and final drop-off |
| Public Bus Route 02 | Budget daytime travel between Hoi An/Cua Dai and Da Nang | Current timetable, boarding stop and fare band |
Hoi An to Da Nang: distance and travel time
From central Hoi An to central Da Nang, a direct road transfer normally takes around 40–60 minutes. Your real door-to-door time can be different if you are leaving from a resort outside the Ancient Town, travelling to Da Nang Airport, heading to the railway station or staying farther along the beach corridor.
When we plan this transfer, we do not use the driving time alone. A family leaving a hotel inside Hoi An’s pedestrian area may need extra walking time to the pickup point, while a group with several suitcases may need a larger vehicle even though the road distance is the same.
The same road works in the reverse direction from Da Nang to Hoi An. If you are going for sightseeing rather than simply changing hotels, use our Hoi An day trip from Da Nang guide instead, because the best departure time depends on how much of the afternoon and evening you want in Hoi An.

Which transport option should you choose?
If you are travelling light and have no fixed arrival deadline, a taxi or ride-hailing car is usually enough. If you are travelling with parents, children, several large bags or a flight to catch, we would normally favour a pre-arranged direct vehicle so the pickup time and luggage space are clear before the day begins.
Taxi or ride-hailing
This is the easiest on-demand choice for many couples and small groups. You can book when you are ready, travel directly to your Da Nang hotel, airport or station, and avoid a shared pickup schedule.
Check the live fare rather than planning around an old price from a blog. App totals can change with demand, pickup point, vehicle type and traffic. Before confirming the ride, make sure the destination pin is the correct Da Nang Airport terminal, railway station or hotel, not just a generic city-centre point.
Pre-booked private car
For Indian families and larger groups, this is often the easier option when the transfer has a fixed deadline. If you have an early flight, several suitcases, children or senior travellers, knowing the vehicle and pickup time in advance removes one more thing to arrange on the day.
When comparing quotations, look beyond the headline price. Ask whether the vehicle actually fits your passengers and luggage, whether airport or parking charges are included, and whether a sightseeing stop changes the total time or cost. A seven-seat vehicle, for example, does not automatically mean seven passengers plus seven large suitcases will fit comfortably.
Shared shuttle or minivan
A shared shuttle can work well when you are travelling light and your schedule is flexible. The part to check carefully is the real pickup pattern. A service advertised as a short Hoi An–Da Nang journey may still collect other passengers or make several hotel stops before reaching your final destination.
If the van is connecting you to a flight or train, ask for the pickup window and final drop-off point before booking. We would leave more buffer than the advertised road time, because a shared service is only as direct as the stops scheduled that day.
Can you take a public bus from Hoi An to Da Nang?
Yes. Da Nang’s official Bus Route 02 connects the Da Nang Central Bus Station/city corridor with Hoi An and Cua Dai. DATRAMAC’s June 2026 operating notice lists service from 04:45 to 18:00, with buses approximately every 15–30 minutes.
For a traveller moving during the day with light luggage, that can be a useful lower-cost option. We would not rely on it for a late Hoi An evening if the current last-service time is unchanged. The route is also long enough that the most convenient stop may be closer to your hotel than the official endpoint.
Our Da Nang public transport guide explains the current route and fare structure in more detail. Before travelling, recheck the official DanaBus route map for any timetable or stop changes.
Hoi An to Da Nang Airport: allow for the whole journey
Da Nang International Airport is the main airport for Hoi An, and this is where we would be most conservative with timing. A 40–60 minute drive is not the same as saying you can leave Hoi An 40–60 minutes before you need to be at the airport.
- Early-morning or late-night flight: a direct taxi or private transfer is usually easier because public transport may not match the flight time.
- Family or group with luggage: confirm the vehicle size before pickup and make sure the bags fit as well as the passengers.
- Domestic or international flight: start with the airline’s required arrival time, then work backwards through the road transfer.
- Shared shuttle: confirm whether the service goes straight to the airport or collects other travellers first.
If we are arranging this as part of an itinerary, we work backwards from the flight rather than forwards from Hoi An. That is a safer way to plan because hotel checkout, walking to the pickup point, traffic and terminal drop-off all sit outside the simple drive-time estimate.
What if you are going to Da Nang Railway Station or a city hotel?
For Da Nang Railway Station, use the same logic as an airport transfer. The train departure is fixed, so the useful question is how early you need to reach the station after allowing for the hotel pickup and road journey. With luggage or an early train, a direct car is usually the simpler choice.
If you are simply moving to a Da Nang hotel, you have much more flexibility. Give the driver or app the exact property, especially if you are staying around My Khe Beach, the Han River or farther south along the coast. “Da Nang centre” is too broad to estimate a reliable door-to-door time.
Where can a car pick you up in Hoi An Ancient Town?
Hoi An’s heritage core operates as a walking and cycling zone for much of the day and evening. The current 2026 visitor notice lists the Ancient Town restricted period from 09:00 to 21:30 in summer and 09:00 to 21:00 in winter.
If your hotel, tailor or restaurant is inside that area, confirm the pickup point before the transfer day. With luggage, the extra walk to the vehicle matters more than it sounds. For an airport or train transfer, we would include that walking time in the buffer instead of assuming the car can collect you at the exact door.
What should families, seniors and travellers with luggage consider?
For many Indian family groups, comfort changes the calculation more than the fare itself. A cheaper bus or shared service may stop being convenient if you still need a taxi to the boarding point, move several large suitcases or ask parents to walk a long distance after the final stop.
- Children: confirm any child-seat requirement before booking; do not assume every taxi carries one.
- Senior travellers: fewer transfers and shorter walks can be worth more than the lowest transport price.
- Large luggage: match the car to the bags as well as the passenger count.
- Larger family groups: one properly sized pre-arranged vehicle can be simpler than splitting everyone across several cars.
Can you stop at Marble Mountains on the way?
Yes. Marble Mountains lies naturally on the Da Nang–Hoi An corridor, so it can turn a simple hotel transfer into a sightseeing stop when your schedule allows. We would only add it when the transfer is not tied to a flight or train and the group is comfortable with the extra walking and steps.
If you are travelling with luggage, confirm where the bags will stay while you visit. If you are heading to the airport, we would protect the flight buffer instead of adding a last-minute attraction simply because it is on the route.
Common mistakes we would avoid
- Using an old Bus No. 1 guide: current official 2026 information identifies Route 02 for the central Da Nang–Hoi An/Cua Dai corridor.
- Relying on an old fixed taxi or Grab price: check the live fare or current quotation for your actual pickup and vehicle.
- Planning from drive time alone: include hotel pickup, walking, shared stops and airport/station buffer.
- Forgetting the pedestrian zone: agree on a legal and practical pickup point before you need the car.
- Planning a late evening around the daytime bus: Route 02’s current published service ends at 18:00.
- Adding sightseeing before a fixed departure: protect the flight or train first.
A simple way to choose
If you are a couple or small group and want flexibility, a taxi or ride-hailing car is usually enough. If you have parents, children, several bags or a fixed airport/train time, we would normally arrange a direct vehicle. If your priority is keeping the cost down and you are travelling during the day, check Route 02. A shared van sits in between, but only if the pickup schedule works for you.
If this transfer is part of a wider Central Vietnam holiday, send Vietnam Story your travel dates, number of travellers, luggage, hotel locations and any fixed flight or train times. We can then place the transfer where it actually fits in the route rather than making the rest of the itinerary work around it. You can also compare our Da Nang tour and itinerary options if you are still deciding how Hoi An, Ba Na Hills and Hue should fit together.
