Five Vietnam Airports Most Relevant to Indian Travellers
For most India-origin leisure trips, the practical airport choice is not about finding the “largest” airport. It is about landing close to the region you actually plan to visit and avoiding an unnecessary domestic sector.
1. Noi Bai International Airport (HAN) — Hanoi and North Vietnam
Choose HAN when North Vietnam is the core of the trip. It works naturally for Hanoi, Ninh Binh, Ha Long Bay and onward travel toward Sapa. If your first hotel is in central Hanoi, remember that landing at HAN is only the end of the flight; immigration, baggage and the road transfer still reduce the usable part of the arrival day.
For a short North Vietnam trip, flying into Hanoi and keeping the route within the northern cluster is usually more efficient than adding another region simply because a domestic flight is available.
2. Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN) — Ho Chi Minh City and South Vietnam
Choose SGN when the trip begins with Ho Chi Minh City, the Mekong Delta or a South-led route. For travel in late 2026 and 2027, read the airport code on the ticket carefully because South Vietnam is entering the Long Thanh transition period.
Tan Son Nhat Terminal 3 is already operating for domestic services. If an international arrival at SGN connects to a domestic flight, check the operating terminal on the ticket and leave a realistic transfer buffer rather than assuming both sectors use the same building.
3. Da Nang International Airport (DAD) — Da Nang, Hoi An and Central Vietnam
DAD is the most useful gateway for a Central Vietnam-focused holiday. It keeps Da Nang and Hoi An in one compact regional plan and can also support Hue when the itinerary is built around Central Vietnam.
For travellers with only five or six days, this can be simpler than landing in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City and then spending another part of the holiday on a domestic flight just to reach Central Vietnam.
4. Cam Ranh International Airport (CXR) — Nha Trang and Cam Ranh
CXR is the airport to check when Nha Trang or a Cam Ranh resort is the main destination. Do not search only for “Nha Trang airport” and assume the terminal is in the city centre; the airport and resort areas require a road transfer after landing.
CXR is usually a destination-specific gateway rather than the default airport for a first North–Central–South Vietnam circuit.
5. Phu Quoc International Airport (PQC) — Phu Quoc Island
PQC is useful when Phu Quoc is a major part of the holiday. For an island-led trip, it can remove an unnecessary mainland stop.
