When guests ask us for the “best sunset in Phu Quoc”, we usually ask where they will already be at 5 PM. The island has several good west-facing areas, but the most useful sunset spot is often the one that fits the rest of the day and still gives you an easy way back to dinner or the hotel.
If sunset is only one part of your evening, use our Phu Quoc Nightlife guide. If you are still choosing the whole island route, start with our Phu Quoc travel guide.
How we choose a sunset spot in Phu Quoc
| Area | Best when | What we would check |
|---|---|---|
| Long Beach / Bai Truong | You want the easiest classic west-coast sunset near central hotels | Beach access and weather |
| Ong Lang | You are already staying on the quieter west coast | Exact beach access point |
| Dinh Cau / central waterfront | You want sunset with local cultural context in Duong Dong | Crowds and respectful shrine access |
| Bai Dai / North Phu Quoc | You are already in the north and do not want to return to Long Beach | Public/resort access |
| Sunset Town / South | You want sunset to continue into Kiss Bridge, dinner or an evening show | Ticketed areas and current show schedule |
Long Beach: the easiest classic sunset

For first-time visitors staying around Duong Dong or Bai Truong, Long Beach is usually the simplest answer. You do not need a special attraction ticket, and there are enough beach sections, resorts and cafés that the evening can stay flexible.
We would choose the exact access point based on the hotel rather than send everyone to one “famous” pin. The goal is to reach the beach without spending the golden hour in a taxi.
Ong Lang: quieter west-coast sunset
Ong Lang works well when you are already staying in that area or want a quieter beach setting. Rocky sections can give photos more foreground than a wide sandy beach, but access varies between public lanes and resort-front sections.
We would check the exact access point before leaving rather than assume every stretch shown on Maps is equally easy to reach.
Dinh Cau: sunset with cultural context

Dinh Cau is different from a beach-bar sunset. The small coastal shrine sits on the rocky waterfront in central Duong Dong and remains part of local maritime religious life. That makes the stop more interesting than simply finding a west-facing photo angle.
We would arrive early enough to visit respectfully before the sunset crowd builds. Our Dinh Cau Temple guide covers the cultural context and etiquette separately.
Bai Dai: useful when the day is already in North Phu Quoc
Bai Dai faces west and can save a long transfer when the day already includes Grand World, VinWonders, Safari or a northern resort. The main practical issue is access: some stretches are closely tied to resorts, so we would choose the sunset point based on where the group is actually staying or visiting.
Sunset Town: when sunset is the start of the evening

Sunset Town is the most structured sunset environment on the island. In September 2026, Phu Quoc’s tourism portal was still actively promoting the area as a South Phu Quoc sunset anchor, including An Thoi Station, the cable-car corridor, Kiss Bridge and the wider evening setting. We use that as a route signal rather than a reason to promise one exact “best” viewpoint.
We choose it when the group already wants a South Phu Quoc evening. If you only want a quiet sunset by the water, we would not cross the island just for the architecture. For bridge access and ticket timing, use our Kiss Bridge guide.
Beach bars and sunset venues
A beach bar can make the evening easier because you have a seat, drinks and somewhere to stay after the sun goes down. But individual venues change faster than the coastline does.
Instead of keeping a permanent “best beach bars for sunset” ranking, we would choose a current venue on the west coast that is close to the hotel, then verify its opening, reservation/minimum-spend policy and music/event schedule on the day.
Sunset from the water

A late-afternoon boat or squid-fishing trip can give a wide horizon, but this is a weather-sensitive option. We would never choose a marine activity only because the sunset photo looks good online. Wind, waves and the operator’s route decide whether the evening is comfortable.
What about Hon Thom Cable Car at sunset?
The cable car can have excellent sea views late in the day, but the operating windows are more important than the sunset time. We would not book Hon Thom purely as a sunset ride because the final service can end before or around sunset depending on the period.
Use our Hon Thom Cable Car guide for the current schedule before building a sunset plan around it.
Timing and weather
We normally aim to reach the sunset area 30–45 minutes before the day’s actual sunset time. That gives enough time to find the access point, settle children or senior travellers and choose a position without rushing.
Cloud can improve or completely hide the sunset, so a monthly weather guide cannot guarantee the view. Use our Phu Quoc weather-by-month guide for seasonal context, then check the live forecast and sky conditions that afternoon.
How we make the final choice
We would choose Long Beach for the easiest central sunset, Ong Lang for a quieter west-coast evening, Dinh Cau when culture and central Duong Dong matter, Bai Dai when the day is already in the north, and Sunset Town when sunset is meant to lead into a full south-island evening.
The best sunset spot is the one that still makes sense before and after the sun goes down—not the one with the strongest “best sunset” label.
