Flights from India: plan around the actual travel date
Da Nang International Airport (DAD) is the natural arrival point for a Central Vietnam-focused trip. Direct India–Da Nang availability changes by city and date; Vietjet currently sells Da Nang routes involving Indian cities including New Delhi and Mumbai. We would still check the operating schedule for your exact departure date before building the first or last sightseeing day around the flight.
If your international route lands in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City instead, a domestic flight can connect you to Da Nang. Keep the arrival day light when separate tickets or a late arrival are involved. Airport transfer, hotel check-in and meal timing often matter more to the first day than adding another attraction.
Vietnam e-Visa for Indian travellers
Vietnam’s official e-Visa system allows an e-Visa validity of up to 90 days for single or multiple entry. The official portal currently lists a fee of USD 25 for single entry and USD 50 for multiple entry, and its application instructions state a processing period of three working days. We would still apply earlier rather than plan flights around that minimum stated processing time, because incomplete or incorrect information can delay the application. Best time to visit: choose by activity, not one “perfect” month
Da Nang Tourism describes roughly March to August as the dry season, with sunnier conditions suited to beaches and outdoor sightseeing; wetter conditions become a bigger planning factor later in the year. Da Nang + Hoi An | Sample 4-day route
Four days works best when you keep the route focused on Da Nang and Hoi An instead of adding Hue as well. Give Ba Na Hills its own major day, use one day for the city/Marble Mountains plus Hoi An, and protect the arrival or departure day from becoming overloaded.
Day 1: Da Nang arrival – overnight in Da Nang
Keep the first day flexible around the actual flight. After hotel check-in, use the remaining time for My Khe Beach, a nearby dinner or rest rather than committing to a distant attraction.
Day 2: Da Nang sights – Hoi An evening – overnight in Da Nang
Use the morning for a limited Da Nang combination such as Son Tra/Linh Ung and Marble Mountains, then continue toward Hoi An later in the day. If the coconut-village experience is important, allow enough time for it; otherwise go directly to Hoi An and preserve the old-town evening rather than rushing through both.
Day 3: Ba Na Hills – overnight in Da Nang
Allocate the day to Ba Na Hills and the Golden Bridge rather than promising a fixed sequence of every attraction inside the complex. Current operating conditions, ticket scope, meals and any guided service should be confirmed for the travel date in the final itinerary.
Day 4: Da Nang departure
Use the final morning for free time, beach or shopping only when the departure schedule leaves a comfortable transfer buffer. Do not treat the last day as a guaranteed half-day tour.
Da Nang + Hue + Hoi An | Fast-paced 4-day sample
Four days can cover Da Nang, Hue and Hoi An only at a faster pace with frequent transfers. Choose this version when heritage coverage matters more than beach/free time. Travellers who want Ba Na Hills as well should normally add time or drop another major element rather than compressing four different priorities into the same route.
Day 1: Da Nang arrival – transfer to Hue – overnight in Hue
Transfer toward Hue only if the arrival time supports it. Hai Van Pass and Lang Co can be used as scenic routing when daylight and pace allow; they should not be promised on a late-arrival transfer.
Day 2: Hue heritage – transfer to Hoi An – overnight in Hoi An
Prioritise the Imperial City and only the additional Hue sites your group values most. Continue to Hoi An later in the day, understanding that this is a transfer-heavy route and that adding too many tombs, markets and boat activities will reduce the Hoi An evening.
Day 3: Hoi An – Marble Mountains – overnight in Da Nang
Use the morning and early afternoon for Hoi An. Add a coconut-village, craft or river activity only if it is a genuine priority, then stop at Marble Mountains on the return toward Da Nang if time and group mobility allow.
Day 4: Da Nang / Son Tra – departure
Son Tra Peninsula and Linh Ung Pagoda can fit before departure only when the flight schedule leaves enough airport buffer. Otherwise, keep the final day simple and move Son Tra earlier in the route.
Da Nang – Hoi An – Hue | Sample 5-day route
Five days gives you enough room to include all three Central Vietnam bases without making every day a transfer day. A workable sequence is:
- Day 1: Arrive in Da Nang and transfer toward Hue if the flight timing allows; otherwise keep the first night in Da Nang and reverse the route.
- Day 2: Hue heritage day, focusing on the Imperial City and a limited number of additional stops rather than trying to cover every tomb and pagoda.
- Day 3: Transfer to Hoi An, using Hai Van Pass/Lang Co only if the group values the scenic road and the schedule has enough daylight.
- Day 4: Hoi An/Marble Mountains or Hoi An-focused day, depending on pace; move to Da Nang for the final night if that simplifies departure.
- Day 5: Da Nang city or Son Tra Peninsula only when the departure time leaves a safe airport buffer.
If Ba Na Hills is a must, it usually deserves its own major day; in that case, remove a lower-priority stop or add a night rather than squeezing it into the Hue–Hoi An transfer sequence.
Da Nang – Hoi An – Hue | Sample 6-day route
Six days is more forgiving for a first Central Vietnam trip because Ba Na Hills can have its own day and Hue does not need to be compressed into a quick transfer stop.
- Day 1: Da Nang arrival, hotel check-in and a light city/beach evening.
- Day 2: Da Nang city, Son Tra Peninsula and/or Marble Mountains based on the group’s interests.
- Day 3: Ba Na Hills as the main full-day experience.
- Day 4: Hoi An with enough afternoon/evening time for the old town; add a coconut-village activity only if it is genuinely a priority.
- Day 5: Hue day trip or overnight segment. An overnight is preferable when heritage is a major reason for the trip.
- Day 6: Return/departure with free time only if flight timing allows.
For families or groups that need slower mornings, use the sixth day as breathing room rather than automatically adding another attraction.
Central Vietnam | Sample 7-day route
With seven days, the main decision is whether to travel deeper north toward Hue/Phong Nha or keep a slower Da Nang–Hoi An–Hue circuit. Trying to do both a relaxed beach holiday and a long cave extension in the same week works against the purpose of having extra time.
- Option A — balanced Central Vietnam: Da Nang arrival/free time → Da Nang city → Ba Na Hills → Hoi An → Hoi An/free time → Hue → departure/transfer.
- Option B — heritage-heavy route: reduce beach/free time and allocate more nights toward Hue, adding Phong Nha only when the extra road/rail transfer fits the group’s tolerance for long travel days.
For most first-time travellers who also plan Hanoi, Halong Bay or Ho Chi Minh City elsewhere in the same Vietnam trip, keeping the Central segment compact is usually easier than extending all the way to Phong Nha by default.
Day trips you can add from Da Nang
We would add these only when they solve a real priority in your trip. A day trip is useful when it earns the travel time; it is not useful simply because there is space for another attraction name. If you book one, confirm the transport, guide, tickets and meals for that specific day.
- Ba Na Hills: treat it as a major day rather than squeezing it between city stops. It works best when the Golden Bridge and hill complex are a priority.
- Wellness/family alternative: if your group wants a slower full-day option outside the city, compare Than Tai Hot Springs instead of automatically adding another heritage stop.

- Hue: better as a dedicated long day or an overnight segment when the Imperial City and royal heritage are important. Do not add it only to increase the attraction count.

- Bach Ma National Park: choose it for a nature/trekking day and check current access and weather conditions before committing the day.
- Cruise-port or photography-focused routing: build the day around the actual ship schedule or photo priorities rather than using a generic “Instagram tour” label.
When a standard Da Nang itinerary is not the right fit
Our advice is to customise only when one priority genuinely changes the pace of the trip. Wildlife observation on Son Tra needs more time than a standard pagoda stop; a Cham-history focus may justify more museum time or a separate My Son day; a luxury trip may protect resort time and private transfers instead of filling every day with sightseeing. Culture and festival dates that can affect your route
Da Nang gives you easy access to Cham heritage, coastal community traditions and nearby UNESCO-listed destinations. For the itinerary, the useful question is whether a festival or heritage stop changes the timing, crowds or route enough to deserve space in the day.
Festivals in Da Nang

Quan The Am Festival – Marble Mountains
The festival follows the lunar calendar and is centred on Quan The Am Pagoda in the Ngu Hanh Son/Marble Mountains area. In 2026, the city tourism authority scheduled it for 4–7 April, with the principal ceremony on 6 April. If your trip overlaps the annual festival period, allow for larger visitor numbers rather than treating Marble Mountains as an ordinary stop.
Cau Ngu (Whale Worship) festivals
Da Nang has multiple coastal Cau Ngu traditions rather than one single citywide event with a universal date. The city tourism authority describes them as early-spring festivals that vary by locality. Treat them as a cultural opportunity if your dates and route happen to align, not as a guaranteed activity in a standard Da Nang package.
How the main Da Nang stops fit into a tour route
Marble Mountains (Ngu Hanh Son)
Use Marble Mountains as a route stop when you are already travelling south toward Hoi An or when caves, pagodas and viewpoints are a priority on a Da Nang city day. The site involves steps and uneven surfaces, so group mobility matters more than adding every cave to the plan.
Da Nang beaches
My Khe Beach works best as flexible time near the hotel, particularly on arrival day, after a city route or on a slower family itinerary. Do not turn beach time into a compulsory sightseeing stop unless your group actually wants a scheduled activity there.
Hai Van Pass
Hai Van Pass is most useful as part of the journey between Da Nang and Hue. Choose the scenic road when the views and road experience matter to your group; choose the faster transfer logic when Hue itself is the priority. It should solve a routing preference, not appear simply because the itinerary needs another attraction name.
Ba Na Hills and Golden Bridge
Ba Na Hills is a major excursion and should normally anchor its own day. Weather, queues and the size of the complex make it a poor candidate for an already overloaded city itinerary. Travellers who do not care about theme-park-style attractions can allocate that day elsewhere instead of treating Ba Na Hills as mandatory.
Son Tra Peninsula
Son Tra Peninsula pairs naturally with Linh Ung Pagoda and a Da Nang city route. A standard sightseeing visit is different from a wildlife-focused outing: if red-shanked douc observation is a genuine priority, plan it as a specialist interest and never treat a wildlife sighting as guaranteed.
Museum of Cham Sculpture
The Cham Museum is a strong city-route choice for travellers who want historical context before visiting My Son or other Cham sites. It is also easier to retain on a mixed-weather day than a mountain or beach activity, so it can act as a useful itinerary buffer rather than another compulsory stop.
